Partnership with the Australian Human Rights Commission

August 20, 2021

In 2021, The Social Deck partnered with the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC).

This partnership is one way we are helping people and communities to engage in the issues that impact them.

As part of this partnership, we have committed to providing more than $100,000 in pro bono services to support the vital work of the AHRC. In particular, we are supporting them to run webinars and workshops that give people  information and ways to contribute or make a difference to a range of Australian human rights issues.

Since our partnership with AHRC began, we’ve conducted several webinars and workshops on a variety of important topics. You can find out more about these, and watch the video recordings, below.

Harnessing the Power of Older Workers

Age Discrimination Commissioner Dr Kay Patterson, Kathryn Greiner and an expert panel, Toby Dawson, Jane Baker and Anna Llewellyn, discussed how a business or organisation can foster an age-friendly workplace and develop practical strategies to build and maintain a strong multigenerational workforce.

Human Rights and Technology: Accessible Technology for People with Disability

This webinar focused on the accessibility of goods, services and facilities that use Digital Communications Technology for people with disability, with a special focus on accessible broadcasting services and online platforms. Disability rights experts discussed the Human Rights and Technology Final Report recommendations that promote equal access to the benefits of new technology for people with disability.

Human Rights and Technology: Artificial Intelligence

This webinar focused on the human rights implications of the development and use of artificial intelligence in areas such as the delivery of government services, recruitment, and criminal justice settings. It was an opportunity for stakeholders from civil society, human rights and community organisations to discuss the report recommendations and findings, and their implications for human rights in Australia

Managing Covid-19 Risks in Immigration Detention

This webinar, presented by Edward Santow, then Human Rights Commissioner, and a panel of experts, focused on managing COVID-19 in Australia's immigration detention network. It drew on the Commission's 'Management of COVID-19 risks in immigration detention' review.

More coming

More webinars are on the way, so keep an eye out on the events page of the AHRC website.

It’s a huge privilege for us to work with the AHRC to deliver these webinars at the leading edge of human rights.
