We’re helping the Queensland Department of Housing and Public Works with strategic and practical communications support to improve the reach and effectiveness of the Resilient Homes Fund (RHF).

The RHF was created following serious flood events in South East Queensland in 2021-2022. It helps homeowners to complete resilience works such as home-raises and retrofits, and provides community education on flood preparedness and mitigation strategies.

We work in partnership with the RHF Industry and Community Education team to plan and complete communications and engagement activities, as well as respond to opportunities as they arise – for example, extra communications after a heavy rain event.

Since the RHF targets specific flood prone areas in South East Queensland, direct community engagement has a large impact. We have supported RHF expo events that match homeowners and builders, as well as to increase reach with stalls at existing community events, like markets. These opportunities:

  • help homeowners through the application process and completion of their resilient works
  • connect builders and trades with homeowners
  • increase industry awareness of resilient building materials and strategies
  • increase community awareness of the benefits of resilient building strategies in flood-affected and prone areas.

In addition to direct community engagement, we have also delivered a range of communication products to support the program. We have created, or contributed to:

  • videos, including homeowner case studies and a project overview
  • tailored resources for an education pilot program with primary and high schools
  • fact sheets and brochures
  • newsletters, including tailored information and messaging for homeowners and builders.

This includes tailoring content and messages across products, and resources and activities to key audiences, particularly homeowners, the building industry, and flood-prone communities. It also involves extensive stakeholder collaboration, working with partners and stakeholders shared communication and engagement activities.

This project builds on our expertise in communication and engagement about and after natural disaster events.
