Welcome to the Tackling Mosquitoes Together SMS Trial!

About Tackling Mosquitoes Together

The 7 Northern Rivers councils are developing a behaviour change program to reduce the impacts and risks of mosquitoes in homes and local communities. The Social Deck, a for-purpose business specialising in stakeholder engagement, is designing the program on behalf of the councils.

The aims of this program are to:

  • reduce backyard mosquito breeding habitats through source reduction behaviours eg tipping out water holding containers
  • improve other community behaviours that prevent mosquito exposure risks eg applying repellents
  • to reduce the public health risks associated with exposure to mosquitoes through community action.

We are designing the program with local residents to make sure it meets the needs of the local community and is effective for ongoing behaviour change.

About the Tackling Mosquitoes SMS trial

As part of the program design, we have developed an SMS service and a series of messages with reminders and tips to help you reduce mozzies in your backyard and in the community.

The purpose of the SMS trial is to ask residents for their feedback on whether SMS is an effective way to encourage you to take action to tackle mosquitoes. Your feedback will help us further develop and refine the program before it is launched in early 2021.

What you need to do

  1. You will receive about 2 text messages per week from Tackling Mosquitoes Together between 9 November - 4 December, 2020.
  2. Reply YES to the first SMS confirm your participation in the trial.
  3. Respond to any SMS you receive that asks you a question.
