We’re proud to be supporting the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission with a communication, engagement and education strategy and resources helping First Nations communities, aged care workers and providers be ready for upcoming changes in aged care.
We’ve been working with the Commission since early 2024 to co-develop the strategy and its implementation.
Our approach to this project saw us start off with a desktop review and environmental scan of available information to develop a deeper understanding of the project.
We took a co-design approach to the development of the communication and education strategy and to develop new resources. We set up and worked closely with an expert Reference Group and Co-Design Group made up of key stakeholders that guide and support the development of the Strategy and resources.
Led by our First Nations Engagement Manager, Vikki, we engaged with community members online and in person. This included First Nations community members living in cities including Redfern/Sydney, Canberra and Adelaide, and in regional and rural areas - from Cherbourg in Queensland to Katherine, Mataranka and Nhulunbuy in the Northern Territory. Engagements have helped us develop and test the direction of the communication strategy and resources at every stage.
We also tested messaging and resources through an online survey and interviews.
During phase 1 of the project we developed resources including visual storyboards, animations, video stories, conversation guide, radio scripts and products like posters that can be locally tailored. You can check these resources out at www.agedcarequality.gov.au/FirstNations
Since the initial resources have been released, we continue our work with engaging communities and the sector to develop more tailored resources and distribute them as everyone prepares for aged care reforms to come into place from 1 November.
Other resources now under development will also help to communicate and improve First Nations engagement in areas like audit processes and complaints.
In addition to the Strategy and resources, we supported the Commission with creating a bespoke First Nations artwork to be used on resources. Chern’ee Sutton, proud Kalkadoon woman was the talented artist who created the stunning artwork.
It’s always lovely to receive positive feedback from our clients with the Commission sharing ‘The quality of the work, engagement and products is simply excellent. The trust we have in you and your team is constantly being reaffirmed and I hope you are also very proud of the progress.’
We’ve loved working with the Commission and appreciate its genuine commitment to getting this important piece of work right. We look forward to continuing to support them to roll out more resources and engage with First Nations communities, aged care workers and providers.
We provided strategic communication support including a comprehensive communication and education strategy that supports First Nations communities, aged care workers and providers in the lead up to and roll out of upcoming aged care reforms.
